Scanners
Area scanners for automatic gates
Area scanners, which include all sensors such as opening, safety and combination sensors, are an essential component in gate automation. Particularly in industrial plants and commercial buildings, but also in residential buildings or on private property. Area scanners are essentially sensors that are used to scan the area around the gate or automatic door and to initiate a specific gate or door function if people, objects or vehicles are located in the surrounding area.

Opening sensors
Opening sensors are designed to trigger the automatic opening of gates and automatic doors as soon as an approach is detected. These sensors, such as radar detectors, use various technologies to detect movements or objects in the area of the gate.
Safety sensors
Safety sensors are crucial for safety during the operation of automatic gates and doors. They prevent accidents and damage by stopping or reversing the closing of the gate when an obstacle is detected in the gate or door area. The most common types of safety sensors include laser scanners and IR sensors.
Combined sensors
(opening and protection in a single sensor)
Combined detectors usually work on the basis of different sensor principles – such as radar technology for opening and infrared technology for protecting the gate or automatic door. Combined sensors are able to detect both movement and presence in a certain area. This dual capability makes them particularly efficient, as they automatically open the door when a vehicle or person approaches. At the same time, they ensure that no hazards arise for people or machines while the door is moving.
Advantages of area scanners
Area scanners offer increased safety compared to protecting doors and gates with a product that offers only a single function by integrating various sensor functions.
Infrared, radar or time-of-flight measurement –
the different technologies
An area scanner typically consists of a sensor that continuously scans the area around the door. This sensor can use a variety of technologies, including infrared, ultrasound or time-of-flight measurement. The choice of technology depends on the specific requirements of the application and the environmental conditions.
Easy installation and maintenance
Area scanners are typically easy to install and require minimal maintenance. They can often be connected directly to the door or gate control system and do not require additional wiring or configuration.
High reliability of motion, presence
and safeguarding sensors
Modern area scanners for industrial doors and automatic doors are robust and reliable, even in demanding environments such as industrial plants or outdoor areas. Depending on the technology used, they are able to operate in a variety of weather conditions and provide continuous monitoring of the door area.
