The BEA LZR-H100 versus Loop Detectors

For many years loop detectors have been used to protect and open barrier arm systems. Meanwhile, innovation and advancing technology have led to the development of an alternative solution that eliminates the disadvantages of induction loops and offers many other benefits:

The Advantages of the LZR-H100 Scanner versus Induction Loops:

  • The BEA LZR H100 opens the barrier on approach and at secures the area under the barrier arm simultaneously.
  • The BEA LZR-H100 works autonomously. In contrast to induction loops, the scanner also works even when there are strong concrete reinforcements, underfloor heating, or other possible sources of background interference.
  • Significantly shorter installation times can be achieved compared to induction loops. Since no components need to be fixed underground, the LZR-H100 has an average installation time of 1-2 hours.
  • The laser scanner is a type E safety sensor according to EN 12453.
  • The BEA LZR-H100 detects the direction vehicles are travelling in, so parallel traffic can be filtered out. The barrier only opens to vehicles that are approaching.
  • The system also filters people: the barrier opens only to vehicles and only closes when there are no vehicles or people in the safety area.
  • Universal recognition: whether they are cars, electric vehicles, vehicles made of composite materials, trucks with and without trailers, semi-trailers, etc., the LZR H100 recognizes all vehicles, regardless of type and material.
  • The laser scanner is easy to reach, therefore enabling quick and straightforward technical maintenance
  • All parameters are stored and maintained even following a power failure, so the environment’s dimensions don’t need to be re-entered.
  • Since the LZR-H100 is not subject to any mechanical effects, such as tire marks etc., there is a significant reduction in wear-and tear and other follow-up related costs.

Working Principle:

The laser scanner BEA LZR H100 detects objects via time of flight measurement. For this, the sensor creates 4 measurement planes with a maximum field size of 9.9m x 9.9m. Within this field, the opening area and the presence detection area can be set flexibly. With the help of three visible laser beams, the fields can be positioned easily the and the scanner learns the surrounding environment is automatically. The LZR H100 has two polarity-free relay outputs for independent control of the opening command or open position. Further technical information can be found here.
